My take on the poem If I Were in Charge of the World by Judith Viorst

If I were in charge of the world,
I'd cancel profanity,
Rape,
Rejection,
Materialism, and also stereotypes.

If I were in charge of the world,
There'd be the option to be in charge of the universe,
Children's public education based on scientific
studies (which it is currently not),
More respect to differences,
A free order of reversible stuffed animals for everyone,
More good influences, and
Elegant Victorian-style libraries on every block.

If I were in charge of the world,
You wouldn't have rank.
You wouldn't have abuse of power.
You wouldn't have tragedy dramas.
Or popularity.
You wouldn't even have eating disorders.

If I were in charge of the world,
Everyone would go to see comedies every day,
All songs would make people feel better,
And a person who sometimes forgot to stay on task,
And sometimes forgot to stay off the computer,
Would still be allowed to be
In charge of the world.
